Recognize Your Digital Display Type

When buying a smart phone, a computer desk (desktop) and the tablet, we often hear terms such as AMOLED, IPS, PentTile, or TFT. Is that sequence of letters looked confusing technological terms?

The producers of the screen, made it for the tablet, phones, TVs and computers are always trying to convince people about the benefits of the product display. For the sake of those efforts, many acronyms and terms thrown in consumer technology.

Basically the situation is simple. You may only deal with three main types of digital display, the LCD, OLED and Plasma. Here is a summary of some type of screen as preached PC World, Tuesday (04/10/2012).

A. Plasma

Nowadays, plasma-screen HDTV is only found in very large-sized LCD and plasma also appeared to start replacing. This type of screen has good contrast, with white light and a dark black. Color reproduction is very good and has a stunning view angle.

Plasma screen is not much change the display color and lighting when you look at it from the side. In addition to making it in large size display was relatively cheap.

Plasma also has shortcomings that make it difficult to adopt a small-sized devices. This type of screen is too thick, heavy and takes up less power. Plus it is difficult to put a lot of pixels into a plasma, so that small devices will suffer from low resolution.

2. OLED

Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is the latest digital display technology in the consumer market. You often see on the market with a label AMOLED (active matrix organic light-emitting diode). The term active matrix display means direct control or dying flame, bright or dim each sub pixel.

Labels can be said to be useful. Because virtually all LCD and OLED screens in consumer devices today use the term active matrix, and there is nothing special in it.

OLED technology offers many advantages. This type of power-consuming screen is smaller even than the most energy-efficient LCD. Because it directly emit light without relying on backlit, the screen size can be very thin.

In addition, OLED screens also have a very fast response to speed change in the color of each pixel LCD than the fastest. Blur in moving images to be reduced. Viewed from any angle, the screen of this type show very little change in contrast or color.

Disadvantages of this technology is the production rates are more expensive than LCD or plasma. Then, the blue color of the OLED display will diminish over time.

What about the Super AMOLED , AMOLED and Super AMOLED Plus?

Both are just variations of the term market for OLED technology standards. The differences are usually found on small variations subpixel pattern in red, green and blue, or integrating a touch-sensitive layer.

3. LCD (Liquid Crystal Display)

This is the most widely used type of display. LCDs are commonly found in the majority of HDTV, desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone. There are many types of LCD are used, but only three main classes just to be mentioned here.

The first is the LCD Twisted Nematic (TN). The screen is easily mass produced. The response was quite fast with the lowest rate at 2 milliseconds. Although not as fast as OLED, this is the fastest on the type of LCD.

Fast response can reduce the blur on moving images. Unfortunately, TN panels produced image is also in low quality. Color spectrum is more than any other technology. View angle is also bad, especially when viewed from the side of the color change can occur.

Both are LCD In-Plane Swithcing (IPS). This technology was first developed by Hitachi in 1996. But in the present, most IPS panels manufactured by LG. There are several variations to this IPS LCD, the Super IPS, Advanced Super IPS and IPS Pro.

IPS is the excess of each subpixel color red, blue or green to show the brightness of 8 bits, so the color is more accurate. IPS can display more colors of the spectrum. For this reason too many artists and photographers who idolized him.

Also a wider view angle and viewed from anywhere will display the appropriate color.Fire Amazon Kindle, iPad and iPhone from Apple, and Asus Eee Pad Transformer is an example that uses this type of screen.

The downside is the brightness does not perform better than TN panels. Then the graphics that move at high speeds can sometimes leave a trail. The price is still quite expensive.

The third is the LCD Vertically Aligned (VA). The ability of this panel is between IPS and TN. Color reproduction is better than TN panels, and can display 8 bits per subpixel brightness. But the color spectrum is shown not as much as IPS. Gaze angle was better than TN, but not as wide as IPS
